Overview
The Nanjing Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydrological Automation under the Ministry of Water Resources is a research institution directly under the Ministry of Water Resources, specializing in basic research and key engineering technology development in the fields of water conservancy and hydrological automation, water conservancy informatization, and smart water conservancy.
Since its establishment in the 1940s, the research institute has continuously innovated and reformed, and has now become a well-known scientific research base for water conservancy, hydrology, geotechnical engineering monitoring instruments, key technical equipment for hydrological and water resources monitoring, and intelligent water conservancy integration technology research both domestically and internationally. As the national team and main force of China's water conservancy and hydrological automation and informatization, in recent years, a series of applied basic research and technological breakthroughs have been carried out around the key and difficult issues in monitoring and control of hydrology and water resources, water and drought disasters, water environment, water ecology, and water conservancy engineering operation and management. He has successively presided over and participated in more than 30 national and provincial level major scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation and Key R&D Program, as well as more than 100 local major scientific research projects, and has achieved a number of high-level, practical, and industry influential scientific and technological achievements.
The research institute's high-tech fields such as hydrological and water resources monitoring, water environment and water ecology monitoring, water and drought disaster monitoring and early warning, engineering construction and operation quality monitoring, engineering safety monitoring, irrigation water conservation and informatization, soil and water conservation monitoring, water conservancy and hydrological instruments, and smart water conservancy are developing synchronously with the international advanced level. The technological achievements have been transformed into practical applications, and many products and technologies have reached the international advanced level, and have been exported to relevant countries and regions in Asia and America.
The research institute attaches great importance to the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and the promotion and application of products. It has established a wholly-owned Jiangsu Nanshui Science and Technology Co., Ltd. From water conservancy information planning, design, consulting to product research, development, trial production, and achievement transformation, from standard specification preparation, measurement technology research to quality inspection and testing, from system integration, engineering implementation to operation and maintenance, and localized services, it has formed a complete scientific research and technology industry chain.
Under the guidance of the State Administration for Market Regulation, the Ministry of Water Resources, and the Nanjing Institute of Water Resources Science, it has undertaken the responsibilities of the domestic technical counterpart of the International Organization for Standardization Hydrological Testing Technical Committee (ISO/TC 113) and five sub technical committees, the secretariat of the Instrument, Equipment, and Data Management sub technical committee (ISO/TC 113/SC 5) under ISO/TC 113, the secretariat of the National Hydrological Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC199) and its sub technical committee on hydrological instruments (SAC/TC199/SC1), and the secretariat of the Water Resources Measurement sub technical committee (MTC36/SC2) under the National Energy Resources Measurement Technical Committee. The research institute is a unit in the industry that has both domestic and international standardization technical committee platforms under the guidance of the Ministry of Water Resources.
